Vacations are the highlight of the year for many of us, so it’s important you plan ahead to make sure you have the best time possible. Here are some tips to help you plan for your big break and save yourself a lot of stress.
When you are packing, make sure you allow for the activities you will be doing. If you will spend a lot of time at the beach, you will want to pack at least one swimsuit for each member of your family. If you plan to spend multiple days on the sand, it is a good idea to bring more than one swimsuit. One suit can be drying while you wear the other one. Also be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, a hat, water safety gear, beach toys and beach towels.
If you are going camping, you will need to bring hot- and cold-weather clothing. Even warm climates can get a bit chilly at night, so you will be happy you remembered that extra sweatshirt. You will still need to bring a hat and raingear and plenty of bug spray. Of course you will need your tent or camper, food, cooking gear and all the other camping essentials.
If you will be spending your vacation in a city, bring mix-and-match tops and bottoms to create several outfits with little fuss. Bring some casual and some dressy clothing so you have something appropriate to wear for every occasion.
In addition to clothing, be sure to bring proper identification for each family member, including driver’s licenses, birth certificates and health and auto insurance. It is hoped you won’t have to show them, but these are essential to have on hand in an emergency.
Another good idea is to back a first-aid kit. Your kit should contain all bandages, pain relievers and prescription medicines you may need. It is also a good idea to pack soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes. An extra towel or washcloth may come in handy.
No matter where you go, pack a camera. You will see many things on your trip that you just can’t experience at home. Capture those images forever. There are many inexpensive disposable cameras available that are very easy to use.
Remember, if you forget to bring anything, you most likely will be able to purchase it on your trip. However, stores often have higher prices in locations catering to tourists. That’s why it is good to pack well.
The most important thing to pack on your trip is your sense of humor. When something goes wrong (and it will), you want to be able to shrug your shoulders, laugh it off and go on with your vacation. You want to remember the good things that happen, not the bad things.
